Presenter:

Dr. Lorena Calvo Mariscal, coordinator of the SEA-EU Observatory for Migration and Human Rights and of the  Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet 'Migration and Human Rights in Europe´s External Borders' at the Universidad de Cadiz. Doctor Mariscal is a visiting scholar at the IBSC this summer and has spent most of August in Gdańsk.

Theme:

Migration in Europe's Southern Border: Protection and Promotion of Human Rights at Borders and Beyond Borders. The talk addresses new EU developments in migration management in Europe's external borders, especially the issue of the externalisation of migration management through cooperation with third countries. It also address how human rights apply to migrants and asylum seekers at land and sea borders in this new context of externalisation of border functions.
